About this worksheet

Each worksheet has 6 problems writing the two-operation rule a table follows.

The rule-finding worksheets on this site use one operation, at grades 3 and 4. With one operation the rule can be found by dividing any row; with two the student has to notice that the outputs rise by a constant amount per step and that the constant is not the whole story. The inputs here are consecutive, which is the opposite of the companion sheet that goes from rule to table - going this direction the step between rows is the only evidence there is. Sheets can be customized, turned into flash cards, or assigned for online learning.

Student objectives

  • Find the multiplier from the step between rows.
  • Find the constant that is left over.
  • Write a two-operation rule.

Everyday practice

  • Look at how much a table goes up each row.
  • Work out what is added on top.
  • Test a rule against every row.

Standards
