About this worksheet
Each worksheet has 6 questions about the origin, the axes and the coordinates of a point.
This worksheet asks about the origin and the axes of a coordinate plane rather than only about the points. The other coordinate sheets all read or mark locations and never say the words origin, x-axis or y-axis, or ask which number does what - a student can read a point off a grid perfectly and still not know which number moved them along the bottom. The point shown never sits on an axis and never has matching coordinates, since either would let a student who has the two numbers backwards score anyway. Sheets can be customized, turned into flash cards, or assigned for online learning.
Student objectives
- Name the origin of a coordinate plane.
- Tell which coordinate moves along each axis.
- Find how far a point is from an axis.
Everyday practice
- Describe where something is on a map grid.
- Explain how to reach a spot from a corner.
- Read a seat number given as a pair.
