About this worksheet

Each worksheet has 6 word problems where an expression is evaluated for a given value.

This worksheet describes a situation, gives the expression that matches it, and asks for its value at a stated number. The story is what makes the parentheses mean something: four boxes of n pencils with seven more loose is four times n plus seven, while four boxes each holding n pencils and seven erasers is four times the quantity n plus seven. The numbers are identical and the answers are not. The expression is given rather than asked for, because writing it is a different standard - this one says to evaluate when the values are given. Sheets can be customized, turned into flash cards, or assigned for online learning.
