Each worksheet has 15 problems estimating a fraction sum or difference by rounding each fraction to 0, 1/2 or 1.
This worksheet estimates a sum or difference of two fractions by rounding each one to 0, one half or 1 first. The rounding rule is stated in the instructions because an estimation question without one has no answer key - about how much is three eighths plus five sixths is defensibly answered by 1, by 1 1/4 and by 1 1/2. Fractions sitting on a quarter or three quarters never appear, since those are exactly halfway between two benchmarks and rounding them has two right answers. Sheets can be customized, turned into flash cards, or assigned for online learning.
