This math worksheet practices the first move in solving a two-step equation. For each equation, students choose the right first step from four (add, subtract, multiply or divide) and then write the new equation: for 3x + 5 = 26, subtract 5 from both sides to get 3x = 21. The equations mix ax + b, ax - b, x/a + b and x/a - b forms.
