About this worksheet
Each worksheet has 6 problems choosing the figure that shows the result of one slide, flip or turn.
Four of the five worksheets already tied to this skill work on a coordinate plane, which is a different and later standard - on a grid the task becomes counting squares rather than seeing the motion. Off the plane there is nothing to count. Every wrong answer here is the same figure under a different single transformation, so nothing can be picked by noticing which one still looks like the original, and every figure is deliberately lopsided: a shape with a line of symmetry would give a flip and a turn that draw the same picture, and the question would have two right answers. Sheets can be customized, turned into flash cards, or assigned for online learning.
Student objectives
- Picture a figure after a quarter or half turn.
- Picture a figure after a flip over a vertical or horizontal line.
- Tell a flip from a turn by looking at the result.
Everyday practice
- Turn a book a quarter turn and say what moved where.
- Hold a shape up to a mirror and describe what changes.
- Say whether a flipped shape is still the same size.
