About this worksheet
Each worksheet has 12 problems naming the fraction marked on a number line with benchmarks labeled.
This worksheet asks children to name the fraction marked on a number line. The benchmarks 0, one half and 1 are labeled but the divisions are not numbered, so a child reads the position against the benchmarks rather than being handed the answer. Every marked fraction is in lowest terms, which matters more than it looks - a point on the sixth of twelve divisions is both six twelfths and one half, and only coprime numerators and denominators give the question a single answer. Sheets can be customized, turned into flash cards, or assigned for online learning.
Student objectives
- Name the fraction shown by a point on a number line.
- Use 0, one half and 1 as benchmarks to read a position.
- Count equal parts between 0 and 1 to find a denominator.
Everyday practice
- Fold a strip of paper into equal parts and label each crease as a fraction.
- Mark where a half full glass would sit on a line from empty to full.
- Draw a line from 0 to 1 and place a favourite fraction on it.
