About this worksheet
Each worksheet has 8 problems choosing which of four spinners most likely produced a set of results.
Every other worksheet on this standard hands over the known probability and asks about the results, so each of them can be answered by working out one expected count and looking at one set of results. Handing over the results and asking which known probability they fit makes a student run the comparison four times and pick the closest, which is the only form here where the comparison is the answer rather than a step. The four spinners are forced far enough apart to have an answer - their expected counts are at least four apart while the right one misses by at most one - because left to chance two of them land equally close and the question quietly has two answers. Sheets can be customized, turned into flash cards, or assigned for online learning.
Student objectives
- Work out the expected results for several known probabilities.
- Compare a set of results with each one.
- Choose the probability the results fit best.
Everyday practice
- Guess what a spinner looks like from how it landed.
- Work out how many of twenty spins each section should get.
- Say which prediction came closest.
