About this worksheet
Each worksheet has 5 problems finding the side of a congruent figure that matches a given side.
Two worksheets here decide whether figures match; neither asks what that matching is. Corresponding parts are the reason congruence is worth establishing, and they are also where a reflection stops being obvious - flipping reverses the way the letters run round the figure, so the fourth vertex is not the fourth one you meet going the same way round. Every wrong answer is checked to be a side of a different length from the one asked about, because several of these figures have two sides the same length and offering one of those would make it a second right answer. The second figure is lettered with its own sequence rather than with primes, so the letters cannot give the answer away. Sheets can be customized, turned into flash cards, or assigned for online learning.
Student objectives
- Find the side of a congruent figure that matches a given side.
- Follow the lettering round a figure after it has been turned.
- Recognize that a flip reverses the order the letters run.
Everyday practice
- Trace a shape, turn the tracing, and say which corner is which.
- Explain why matching sides have the same length.
- Name the parts of a shape in order around it.
