This worksheet shows a polygon on a grid and asks for the best estimate of its perimeter. Every perimeter sheet on the site until now finds an exact answer by adding labelled whole-number sides, but this standard says estimate, and the difference is that a slanted side has no whole-number length so the student has to judge one. Pythagorean triples are excluded, because a three four five triangle has a perimeter of exactly twelve and stops being an estimate. The argument the sheet wants is that a slanted side is longer than either leg it spans and shorter than both together, which is enough to pick the right option, so the choices are spread far apart rather than clustered. Sheets can be customized, turned into flash cards, or assigned for online learning.
