Estimating a Percent of a Number Worksheet Download
The numbers are deliberately awkward and the choices deliberately far apart: 9.9% of 292 is not meant to be calculated, it is meant to be rounded to 10% of 300. That is why the question asks which choice is CLOSEST - a sheet whose numbers divide neatly is a computation sheet, not an estimation one. The wrong answers are the ways the estimate goes wrong: the decimal point a place out, the percent read as the count (about 10% becoming about 10 students), and the total rounded to the wrong hundred. Nothing within a quarter of the right value is ever offered, so closest always has one obvious winner.
