About this worksheet

Each worksheet has 9 problems choosing whether spinning a described number is impossible, unlikely, equally likely, likely or certain.

The content limits for this standard name the picture - one spinner, one coin - and neither of the worksheets that came before it draws the experiment. This one does, and the event is a condition rather than a colour: spinning a number greater than five has to be turned into a set of sections before anything can be counted, which is where a sixth grader's probability work actually goes. The five choices stay in scale order, impossible through certain, because they are a continuum rather than a list. The word that is true is chosen first and the spinner is searched for to match it, so impossible, certain and equally likely come up as often as the other two instead of once in a blue moon. Sheets can be customized, turned into flash cards, or assigned for online learning.

Student objectives

  • Read a probability from a picture of a spinner.
  • Decide which sections satisfy a condition before counting them.
  • Describe a probability using the five likelihood words.

Everyday practice

  • Count how many sections of a spinner are even.
  • Ask what makes something certain rather than merely likely.
  • Say whether a chance is above or below one half.
