About this worksheet

Each worksheet has 2 problems building a line plot from a list of measurements written in whole numbers and halves.

This worksheet gives a plain list of measurements and asks the student to build the line plot from it. The scale runs from 0 to 2 counting by halves, so the axis carries whole numbers, halves and a mixed number together - which is what the standard means by a plot marked with whole numbers and fractions. It is a gentler form than the sheet that hands over an unlabelled axis and expects the fractions to be marked on first. Sheets can be customized, turned into flash cards, or assigned for online learning.

Student objectives

  • Count how many times each value appears in a list of measurements.
  • Plot data that mixes whole numbers and halves on one scale.
  • Place a value that falls between two whole numbers.

Everyday practice

  • Write down a measurement each time you take one, then plot the set.
  • Find a scale that counts by halves and say what comes between 1 and 2.
  • Count the repeats in a list before drawing anything.
