This worksheet asks which of four amounts is closest to the answer of a money problem, following the shape of a released test item. It is a different task from rounding each price and estimating, because the choices are far enough apart that a student never has to round anything - seeing that forty-odd minus thirty-odd is about ten is enough. Every wrong answer sits at least four dollars from the true value while the right one is within about a dollar, so the gap is always wide enough to see and never wide enough to guess, and one distractor is the wrong operation because that is the mistake a child who stops reading after the numbers actually makes. Sheets can be customized, turned into flash cards, or assigned for online learning.
