About this worksheet
Each worksheet has 12 problems adding fractions with a number line divided into the common denominator.
This worksheet adds two fractions using a number line divided into their common denominator, with the two hops already drawn. A line cut into twelfths makes one fourth land on a tick and one third land on a tick, so one fourth plus one third is answered by counting - three twelfths, then four more, arriving at seven. That is renaming to a common denominator done with a picture instead of a procedure, and a student who cannot yet find a least common denominator can still finish the sheet. Every sum is already in lowest terms so counting and reducing give the same answer. Sheets can be customized, turned into flash cards, or assigned for online learning.
