About this worksheet

Each worksheet has 12 problems adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators, written vertically.

This worksheet adds and subtracts fractions with unlike denominators in the vertical form a student is actually taught to write, which the existing sheets for this standard do not use - they all put the problem on one line. Every answer is reduced to lowest terms, subtraction is always written larger first so a difference is never negative, and a result that lands on a whole number is printed as that whole number rather than as a fraction over itself. The two denominators are always different, since a vertical layout exists to practise renaming. Sheets can be customized, turned into flash cards, or assigned for online learning.
